Stress is a body event
Tight shoulders, shallow breathing, and poor sleep are not purely mental. A slower exhale, a brief walk, or splashing cool water on your face can downshift the nervous system enough to make the next decision less reactive.
What you can change this week
- One protected hour without messages if your role allows it
- A consistent shutdown ritual: list tomorrow’s top three, then close the laptop
- Movement you enjoy, not punishment workouts
When stress is more than a busy season
Panic attacks, persistent hopelessness, or using alcohol to fall asleep every night are reasons to speak with a healthcare professional. Workplace stress can also be a safety and HR issue. Skills help; they do not replace care.
