Serving size is the trap
A packet may list numbers for half of what you will eat. Double the sugar and salt in your head. Compare two yogurts per 100 g if the servings differ.
A 20-second scan
You do not need to become a dietitian in the aisle.
- Added sugars near the top of the list
- Sodium that makes a snack taste like a meal
- Fiber that is actually present, not just claimed
- Protein from food, not just a sprinkle of isolate
Short ingredient lists help, with caveats
Fewer additives often means less processing, but salt is still salt. Bread with five ingredients can be reasonable. A “health bar” with a paragraph of syrups is candy with gym branding.
