What B12 actually does
Vitamin B12 helps make red blood cells and supports nerve function. Low levels can show up as fatigue, tingling, or anemia, but those symptoms have many causes. A blood test, not a guess, should guide treatment.
Food sources
- Fish, eggs, dairy, and meats for people who eat them
- Fortified plant milks, some breakfast cereals, and nutritional yeast — check the label
- Seaweed and spirulina are not reliable B12 replacements despite the marketing
Who should be extra careful
Strict vegans, people on long-term acid-reducing medication, and older adults with reduced absorption often need fortified foods or a supplement. Do not start high-dose injections on social media advice. Ask a clinician, especially if you are pregnant or have neurological symptoms.
