An Evening Flexibility Routine for Stiff Desks

An Evening Flexibility Routine for Stiff Desks

August 20, 2026

Quick Summary

Ten quiet minutes after work can restore hip and chest range you lost to the chair, without turning the living room into a yoga studio.

Hold less, breathe more

Thirty to forty-five seconds is plenty for most after-work stretches. Bounce-free, pain-free, and slightly challenging is the zone. If you cannot breathe through it, you went too far.

  • Chest opener in a doorway — 30 seconds
  • Half-kneeling hip flexor stretch — 30 seconds each side
  • Figure-four on your back — 30 seconds each side
  • Easy forward fold with bent knees — 40 seconds

A living-room sequence

Do this in socks, on a mat or rug, once most evenings.

Flexibility is not a personality

You do not need to touch your toes to be healthy. Strength through the range you have — sit-to-stands, rows, and walking — often helps stiffness as much as stretching. Use both if you enjoy both.

Numbness, night pain, or a sudden loss of range after an injury needs a professional look, not a deeper stretch.
